Organic Finish Maximum Strength Leave-In for wash day on type 4 hair

A Simple Wash Day Routine for Type 4 Hair (That Won't Take All Day)

For a lot of us with type 4 hair, wash day can feel like a whole event. The good news: a simple routine done consistently does more for your hair than a complicated one you dread.

Step 1: Pre-poo (10 minutes)

Before you shampoo, coat your hair with a little oil or conditioner. This protects your strands from feeling stripped and makes detangling easier later. A few drops of our Maximum Strength Hair Oil massaged into your scalp and smoothed over your ends works well.

Step 2: Cleanse gently

Wash your hair in four to six sections so it doesn't tangle. Focus the shampoo on your scalp, where buildup lives, and let the suds rinse through your lengths.

Step 3: Condition and detangle

This is where most breakage happens, so take your time. Use plenty of conditioner, detangle with your fingers first, and work from your ends up to your roots.

Step 4: Moisturize with the LCO method

While your hair is still damp, layer your products: a leave-in like our Maximum Strength Leave-In, a butter like our Fenugreek Infused Hair Butter, then seal with oil. Our LCO method guide walks through it step by step.

Step 5: Protect

Choose a low-manipulation style like twists, braids or a puff, and sleep on satin. For sleek styles and smooth edges, a little of our Hair Butter Balm adds hold and shine without greasy residue.

Between wash days

  • Mist dry hair with our Nourish Me Now Hair Spray.
  • Re-seal your ends with a few drops of oil.
  • Keep your hands out of your hair as much as you can.
